Crafting a Tim Burton-inspired grandfather clock for Sweeney Todd's barber room involved merging live-action and animated film styles from Burton's collection. Drawing from "Nightmare Before Christmas" and "Alice in Wonderland," apart from the chosen film - "Sweeney Todd", the clock, a central element in the sparsely furnished space, enhances the eerie atmosphere, aligning with the scene's sinister undertones.
The woodwork presented a delightful challenge, capturing intricate curves for a whimsical aesthetic. Strategically placed, the clock serves as a cinematic device, intensifying Todd's killing scenes with its ticking, swaying pendulum, and a climactic light flicker. The watch face, unconventionally situated on the pendulum, subtly signals deception in this macabre tale.
This design aims for an unsettling ambiance, utilizing visual and auditory cues to create a standout cinematic moment within the narrative.
